I had originally mentioned the idea of opening a branch for it. However, I don't have commit access to the ASF repository, yet, and I felt too new to be asking for it. Since I have made everyone aware that I would do the work, and the overwhelming consensus seems to be "integrate-instead-of-migrate", I'm ready to start prototyping in my spare time.
