Got it. I'm on my own as far as documentation is concerned. To clarify ... if I can no longer check out a specific revision of components/trunk, as far as source code is concerned, my only options are to use a tagged release or begin coding against maven-3/ trunk. I'd like to delay the latter if possible. If you could confirm that the versioning is/was as follows, I' can take it from here.
2.1-SNAPSHOT
maven-3.0-alpha-1
maven-3.0-alpha-2
maven-3.0-?

I would only look at maven-3/trunk and there are some changes being made but there won't be anything drastic at this point. We found that the embedder was to limiting and we ended up using individual components to do specific tasks. M2Eclipse is the only concrete user at this point so looking through that codebase will be the most illustrative if you need to look at something today.

No, you're on your own looking at code or wait until 3.0 is finalized. It's going to change until we get into the betas.
