The notion that CAs give away S/MIME certificates for free - no cost! - is proof that CAs may be engaged in business, and may have a business model.

I believe that it might be the other way around for many CAs, that there is no money to be made. But anyway, most CAs wouldn't care and bother a minute longer with S/MIME...

Oppose!  You know OpenPGP is bad for you :)

It doesn't have the features most organizations require. The trust anchor is one of them. Do you really think it would bother me if it's called PGP or X509 what CAs sign?
