Did you already try Debian installer images, like

That's strange. The boot procedures for CD and USB stick join a common
code path before the bootloader menus show up.

(Are you sure you used a CD, not a DVD or Blu-ray ?
The live images with desktop GUI are much larger than the capacity of
a CD medium.)
