The tools work by monitoring a network interface and depend upon a predictable network interface name that remains stable across boots and hardware changes (unless you move the card to a different slot). enp3s0 → Ethernet (p = PCI bus 3, s = slot 0) ens33 → Ethernet on onboard slot 33 wlp2s0 → Wireless (p = PCI bus 2, slot 0) That's it.
