This has nothing to do with the "limited computer power" under the hood of a camera. You'd be surprised of the power they got ! No this is inherent to the USB protocol, most camera are still using only version 2.0. Also when you transfer a file using the USB cable on your camera, you can gain some speed if you change the mode on the camera to "DISK" instead of "MTP or Media". You won't be able to use your camera when it will be plugged in the computer but transfer will be much faster. Not all camera offer this option, it's mostly good DSLR like Nikon (they all offer this) and Canon (can't say all model offer this). When you choose the MTP mode, this allow to control the camera thru the USB cable and also transfer files. But the overhead on transfer is quite high. So change between mode when needed, if you are taking photo thru the cable (Tethered use) then set to MTP and if you transfer, set as DISK. Using disk mode, you camera will appear as a normal USB stick in the file manager (under gnome / KDE). Hope this help you a bit. > > >> You may find something useful on the ArchWiki MTP page, although it >> doesn't have much on mtp-tools: >> >> https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Media_Transfer_Protocol > > > Ditto on ArchWiki all the way around.
