I'd recommend _against_ this. Knoppix as a bootable CD is neat, but the mix of packages makes maintenance difficult. This is also somewhat lower on the list of "easy" installs. Easiest is a preload, and there are vendors who'll sell new systems with GNU/Linux, including Debian, installed. After this, an Installfest is your best bet. These are frequently arranged by local Linux User Groups (LUGs). That would likely bee the St. Louis Linux Users Group http://www.stllinux.org/ Meetings are third Thursdays, and there are several mailing lists mentioned. The site was last updated two days ago, which is a good sign ;-) > That's only if you're installing on (newish) i386 hardware, which is a > fairly reasonable assumption, as that's what most AOLers have. > (Knoppix is at www.knoppix.com, but it's currently "down" in protest > of Software Patents.) The front page is replaced, but you can continue on to the rest of the site. Click the "KNOPPIX" links on the page. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/ http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-old-en.html Another option is a chroot install, which is now documented in the standard Debian installation manual, section 3.7.
