This is really naive, but here it what I found. I have a DSL connection with two other machines connected through a router in my house. I was able to telnet into other machines connected to this router and also ping them successfully. That suggests that the NIC is fine.(I am sure there is a better way of testing this) But I can not connect to anything outside. Is there a problem with pppoe configuration?. But why is it not a problem when I boot off a kernel-2.2.20 floppy? I have no clue. Please help.
