I looked at the man page, and it is somewhat meager. I looked online and most info was equally so, and included mostly recommendations that a line for MAILON="always" be included. And the config file is a bit hairy. So, I am curious now about what this really does behind the scenes. For instance, what does this do differently than apt-get update and apt-get upgrade (or dist-upgrade)? When you say you manually install them does that mean you run dpkg on each package in turn, or that you merely run apt-get upgrade yourself? I guess being rather new to the Debian ways I am still seeing in a fog on some of these things. Many thanks again for the help.
