Rack mount? These sorts of things are usually about the size of a pack of playing cards, and aren't intended for use as a stand-alone machine or server: they're often used as embedded systems for industrial monitoring and control, etc. However, even at this level use of the i386 arch is diminishing rapidly, and most of the PC104 etc cards you see around the place are at least 486 or better. My company set up some industrial monitoring units a couple of years ago for a client and we used AMD chips running a very minimal Debian, because the 386 options were just way too underpowered. So speaking as someone with a vested interest in maintaining Debian support for small scale embedded systems, even I wouldn't care if i386 was dropped (at least officially - as someone else noted, running unofficial i386 sources wouldn't be too hard if anyone cared enough to do it). At this point i486 seems to be the minimal ix86 arch worth maintaining, IMHO. Cheers Jonathan
