No problem at all. I think you do not need to cancel if there is
a newer package in unstable before the delayed is accepted.

I'm close to a way more polished version including your patch (thanks a
lot for it again!) I've switched to dh, fixed Homepage and watch file
and upgraded to the latest upstream version. Since I think I'm close to
ready your NMU will be rejected - but feel free to cancel it if you
think its more clean. In any way your contribution is more than welcome
even if both are canceled in these specific cases.

I have the feeling this could be a helpful hint but I admit I don't
