"intended way it works" is to die with an error on user input, Hm. Not
likely.

It's not my confusion as you tend to put it, it's the program's. The
root cause of the error has nothing to do with *.pub SSH files. It's
all explained in the patch rationale.

Not true. All uses would still be available.

The error message looks the same in both cases. But the situations
where the two bugs were filed were different:

    653993 Using standard SSH key file id_dsa.pub
    653994 Using gitolite expected admin name

>From the log in 653994 you can see that the gitolite admin name was
set correctly with "-a". The bug is not correlated with the *.pub file
issue in 653993.
