Well, what happens here is that fbpanel searches for a fixed set of installed app's to get the icon images from them to show. This is nicer than setting an arbitrary set of icons, because if you have do have any of the apps listed on the fixed set, you'll get the respective icon instead a generic one. What I think it's happening in case you don't have any, is that it shows a blank/undescriptive hiper-generic icon. Is that your case?
