(I can't find the messages I posted on these lists, though) The subject was beeps with incorrect frequency / volume posted on alsa-devel on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 and on alsa-users on Mon, 26 Oct 2009. The problem at that time was a bit different, but in essence the same, i.e. beeps not working correctly.
