Package: metacity Version: 1:2.28.0-1 --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hello and thanks for your work !
I'm using a mixed squeeze/sid system. I also meet this bug. It started for me after I upgrated a few package to Sid: gnome-power-manager gnome-session gnome-session-bin Which cause also those new packages to be installed: devicekit-disks devicekit-power libatasmart4 libdevkit-power-gobject1 1) Downgrading / uninstalling those is enough to get rid of the problem, so it's definitively in one of them... 2) I' ve got the very same error in my .xsession-errors (in the very same language ;), which claims (translation) that there is already a windows manager running on the screen 0 and that we should try the --replace option 3) The very same command stop the problem : >Killing metacity works fine (no process taking up cpu power anymore) >but... metacity does not restart automatically. >A metacity --replace & gets it working fine. Furthermore, the command "compiz --replace" make the problem appears again !! then: >I'll investigate those errors later. >I had an nvidia patched kernel with compiz and stuff gnome desktop before >upgrading to 2.6.28 in september and now 2.6.30 ... there might be some >conflicting entries - compiz vs metacity Your are definitively right this is a conflict between compiz and metacity. Could it be gnome-session that keep on starting metacity without checking if we are already using a windows manager? cheers, Jean-Louis --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 Debian Release: squeeze/sid 99 unstable mirror.home-dn.net 988 testing mirror.home-dn.net 988 testing ftp.debian.sk 988 stable volatile.debian.org 984 stable security.debian.org 984 stable mirror.home-dn.net 984 stable ftp.debian.sk 98 unstable ftp.debian.sk 97 experimental ftp.debian.sk 500 unstable repository.cairo-dock.org 500 stable mirror.noreply.org 500 sid www.lamaresh.net --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ==========================================-+-============== libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.20.0) | 1.28.0-1 libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6~) | 2.9-25 libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4) | 1.8.8-2 libcanberra-gtk0 (>= 0.2) | 0.12-1.1 libcanberra0 (>= 0.2) | 0.12-1.1 libgconf2-4 (>= 2.23.2) | 2.28.0-1 libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.16.0) | 2.22.2-2 libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.18.0) | 2.18.3-1 libgtop2-7 (>= 2.23.2) | 2.28.0-1 libice6 (>= 1:1.0.0) | 2:1.0.5-1 libmetacity-private0 (>= 1:2.26.0) | 1:2.28.0-1 libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.14.0) | 1.26.0-1 libsm6 | 2:1.1.1-1 libstartup-notification0 (>= 0.10) | 0.10-1 libx11-6 | 2:1.2.2-1 libxcomposite1 (>= 1:0.3-1) | 1:0.4.0-4 libxcursor1 (>> 1.1.2) | 1:1.1.9-1 libxdamage1 (>= 1:1.1) | 1:1.1.1-4 libxext6 | 2:1.0.4-1 libxfixes3 (>= 1:4.0.1) | 1:4.0.3-2 libxinerama1 | 2:1.0.3-2 libxrandr2 | 2:1.3.0-2 libxrender1 | 1:0.9.4-2 metacity-common (>= 1:2.28) | 1:2.28.0-1 metacity-common (<< 1:2.29) | 1:2.28.0-1 zenity | 2.28.0-1 Recommends (Version) | Installed ================================-+-=========== gnome-session | 2.28.0-2 OR x-session-manager | Suggests (Version) | Installed =====================================-+-============= gnome-control-center (>= 1:2.5.4) | 1:2.26.0-1 gnome-themes | 2.28.0-1 xdg-user-dirs | 0.10-1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
