Not sure what you mean by sketch. Debian testing is called squeeze.
I am running an en locale too.
Thanks Ian,
Could I ask you to followup with reportbug(1) as that will tell us more about
your environment.
Mark
Yep, it is squeeze.
Reportbug output attached.
hp-check.log (quoted in reportbug's output) claims that I need to
install python-qt4-dbus but that package is already installed on my
system: version 4.4.2-4. I ran "apt-get update" and "apt-get install
python-qt4-dbus" tonight just to check and it reported: "python-qt4-dbus
is already the newest version." I then tried the command recommended in
hp-check.log (i.e. su -c "apt-get install --force-yes -y
python-qt4-dbus") and got the same result ("python-qt4-dbus is already
the newest version").

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling
the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper
dependencies are installed to successfully
compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to
successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
