Yes, that is correct and that has always been my main motivation to 
request the change.

It *is* strictly correct to do that because in my expert opinion as one of 
the lead maintainers of D-I efi-reader in its current form is *not* 
suitable for amd64 without a fairly structural rethink how it fits in the 
total installation and several changes in its code [1].

As (AFAIK) we've never even had a proper request to include efi-reader for 
amd64 since p-a-s was changed, let alone a discussion on what changes 
would be needed or a patch, I'm not going to hold my breath. But yes, it 
can of course be discussed.
