I did all that, and still the 
        Fixed-10
font looks *completely* hosed!!!

Interestingly, in the font selection window *itself* in the preview box
it looks fine. But then in the gnome terminal it is completely hosed.
See my post with the image attachment, so it is still not resolved this
problem.
