Various versions mt and rmt are provided in tar, star and mt-st. None of them
can claim the names mt or rmt. Alternatives system will provide a symlink to
one of them, usually the one from tar. I don't suppose you intend to refer to
the other mt in star's manual, don't you?

Joerg. IF you want to discuss packaging then please start with reading related
documents. Suddenly you would not see any "unneeded wrappers".
Alternatively you can stop messing with packaging and concentrate on
developing your code. I suppose this is going to be more productive.

I don't suppose you'd listen to them anyway.
But if you wish I'd start with fixing the broken Defaults.linux that violates
every possible standard. :^)
Then by fixing cleaning process so:
 - make clean does the cleaning, and not an external script
 - it doesn't touch things it didn't create -- since you don't mix binaries
with sources this is damn easy
 - creating a single directory with generated content instead of 12 would also
   help

Oh, really?

Are you referring to some problems created by the buildprocess you have
created yourself?

No Joerg, *I* did not create it. Your makefiles did. And they did not clean
it.

You might claim this if you'd followed eg. FHS.
