I'm not sure how I can explain myself better.  It would also help if you
ask a clear question.  The only questions in it is:

So what are you asking there?  "Does it crash every time the state is
non-normal?"  Then I have no answer for that.

What I know:
- It crashed for me, while it was probably in state were it was
  syncing the disks.
- It doesn't crash for me anymore when nothing has changed other
  than maybe the state of the controller.

If a state other than normal really is the problem, which is just
speculation at this point, than I agree this is a grave bug.

But there is nothing is this bug report indicating that there isn't a
problem, other than not getting a segfault while it's in normal state.
This doesn't give me great confidence that there isn't a problem.

Anyway, this box is running in production, so I can't run all tests
that I want to find out what the problem is.
