Although we have been in dialog with kaffe folks regarding rmic for months now, specifically in regards to building Lucene, this thread has not been mentioned. We have experienced the rmic issue you describe. Until now, Ant's rmic adaptor for kaffe was totally unsuspected. The kaffe team has the merge of the current classpath rmic in the queue for kaffe, and that is what we have been waiting for in our attempt to move lucene to main. See Bug #272295 for the history of this. If this fix for Ant is just now in Ant's cvs head, perhaps we should make a patch for it and incorporate that into Debian's ant package.
