Currently, gettext is not buildable on hppa because openjdk-5-jre-headless has been removed. gettext build-depends on: - default-jdk:hppa default-jdk depends on: - default-jre:hppa (= 2:1.5-72) default-jre depends on: - default-jre-headless:hppa (= 2:1.5-72) default-jre-headless depends on missing: - openjdk-5-jre-headless:hppa The control file uses nojava to determine whether the build depends on default-jdk, maven-repo-helper and fastjar. It does not seem to work. Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (= 13), dh-exec (>= 0.13), dh-elpa, g++ (>= 4:7), bison, file, help2man, xz-utils, default-jdk <!nojava>, maven-repo-helper <!nojava>, fastjar <!nojava>, libglib2.0-dev, libncurses5-dev, libunistring-dev, libxml2-dev, groff The following files also use nojava: gettext.install:<!nojava> usr/share/gettext/gettext.jar usr/share/java gettext.install:<!nojava> usr/share/gettext/javaversion.class not-installed:# not installed under nojava profile not-installed:<nojava> usr/share/gettext/gettext.jar not-installed:<nojava> usr/share/gettext/javaversion.class grep: patches: Is a directory rules.old:ifeq ($(filter nojava,$(DEB_BUILD_PROFILES)),) rules.old:ifeq ($(filter nojava,$(DEB_BUILD_PROFILES)),) Finally, the build rules need updating. I don't believe "--with maven-repo-helper" should be added to dh command on nojava architectures. Probably, "--disable-java" should be added to CONFIGURE_OPTIONS on nojava architectures.
