Nope, I always create a separate, dedicated root account. And install (when not installed) and configure sudo manually after installation.
Had earlier tried various approaches from root prompt (after a sudo -i) and from my regular account with and without sudo. Didn't work. But the sudo hp-plugin -i command does indeed work (didn't know the -i parameter to hp-plugin). Tried it in a VirtualBox Debian unstable installation. Thanks!
