AFAICS unar doesn't have any GUI libraries as dependencies.  Your
nvidious issue is probably unrelated to unar and I guess it's
triggered by some apt pinning / mixing unstable and experimental
(gcc-8 is available only in experimental).

It does, unar (the tool and the Debian package) is just one component.
But the GUI is not portable to GNUstep, last time I checked.
