I've just tried it here, and it seems OK. Could you try moving ~/.gimp-2.2 to ~/.gimp-2.2.orig, and try running gimp again? If it works after that, then there is something odd gone wrong with your configuration. If that still doesn't work, let me know, and we'll have to look at the crash in a bit more detail.
