I mean /usr/share/doc/udev/REAMDE.keymap mainly, but there are other utilities in /lib/udev; I don't know whether they can be useful to the end user, but if there's some documentation for them, it would be fine. > src/udev/keymap/README.keymap.txt still exists in v204 but it has been > replaced by hwdb [1] That's just a source file, not provided in a binary package. With dlocate, I could see: systemd: /usr/share/doc/systemd/README.keymap.txt I think that this file should have been provided by the udev package and be under /usr/share/doc/udev since it only deals with udev. But since it has disappeared in v208, this is an obsolete problem. > > Note that these utilities are needed for keyboard configuration > > (remapping) or detection of problems, so that documentation would > > be useful. > > Martin already switched the Ubuntu systemd package to use the new hwdb > keymap handling, in Debian the v204 package still uses the old scheme. > v208 experimental uses the hwdb based one. > > In v208, there is no more src/udev/keymap/README.keymap.txt, but > /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb has some documentation at the top. But to know how to provide such a configuration for some particular keyboard, one needs to use the /lib/udev/findkeyboards and /lib/udev/keymap utilities. Well... 60-keyboard.hwdb from 208-1 says: # To debug key presses and access scan code mapping data of # an input device use the commonly available tool: evtest(1). Could this evtest utility entirely replace findkeyboards and keymap? >From its man page, not entirely. It doesn't provide the findkeyboards feature, and cannot remap the keyboard (useful for testing before adding an udev rule). And shouldn't the udev package suggest the evtest package? And in v208+, a README.Debian file would be useful, e.g. saying that for (physical / low-level) keyboard remapping, users should look at the /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb file. -- Vincent Lefèvre <vinc...@vinc17.net> - Web: <https://www.vinc17.net/> 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: <https://www.vinc17.net/blog/> Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / AriC project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
