Does this matter?  To me, this is the package *name* not package
*version* so rpmvercmp shouldn't come into play, should it?  Or am I
missing something?

Yeah, Brian has jumped tracks here.

It's a bit odd that the soversion goes backwards from (silent 0.) 25 to 1.9, but I don't think that causes any problems.
