I always do 'make distclean' before pulling, simply because I've
been bitten too often. But recently, I still get bitten, so this isn't
extreme enough!

There's nothing recent about libraries/base/GHC/Prim.hs; we stopped
generating it back in March:

You've just been lucky that it hasn't caused problems until now.

I wouldn't call that lucky - I don't like my build to be in strange
states that go undetected for months! Nor do I like my build suddenly to fail because of files that have been there for months
(and should be ignored anyway because they're not the right
ones to use).

Which only emphasizes the point: my old workflow (which I
thought was the recommended one) isn't working, so I'm asking
for new recommendations.
