I suppose I should ask the simple questions as this should work correctly:

Are you using UV co-ordinates for all sub meshes?
What do you see when you switch to textured mode (ALT+Z)?

I've exported lots of genmesh'es with multiple materials so I know this works, 
but also be aware that one large material rather than lots of little 
materials is faster for the renderer.
