Now, in this particular case, GCC has been doing the experiment: I know. And no one I've seen has complained about it (even me; not that I'm happy about it, but it's a trivial point and my complaints would be ignored anyway). So where's the need for more experiments? In general, you probably don't want to put into standards.texi rules that have never been experimented, and never been tried on real users? It's one thing when the standards do not address an issue. But in this case, quoting characters in the C locale is specifically addressed, and the proposal runs directly against it. I fail to see why it's preferable to implement it in the name of "experimentation" instead of simply asking rms the question. karl
