Hi all

Just a minor observation/suggestion:

I have installed and used the latest vlc-2.2.4 with the suggested patches and noticed that vlc reported many errors on mkv files that played perfectly fine with mpv. Also, it seemed to almost always fail to show the subtitles on mkv. I then compiled and installed libebml and libmatroska and recompiled vlc with support for libmatroska and all those problems were gone.

My suggestion therefore would be to move libmatroska/libebml from optional to recommended dependencies, as it seems to drastically improve the vlc expierience.

However, I am still using the 2.8.5 version of ffmpeg and therefore did not apply the ffmpeg3 patch. Could be be that upgrading to ffmpeg3 will also solve the mkv problems.

Cheers
Tim
