If it's running off the internal eMMC, it should be quite reliable. The most obvious advice is to look at the system logs after the problem has occurred and try to find hints of what has caused the problem. Certainly the kernel will leave a line there when a file system is remounted read-only - something similar to "kernel: Remounting filesystem read-only".
