At this point you would probably be better off installing an 8.1 system, review the 7.1 system from a business perspective and based on a review of what requirements are met in the 8.1 system determine what workflow might need to be carried over from the 7.1 system. Even then you might find it easier to just rebuild the workflow.
In other words, don't think of it as an upgrade but more of a system replacement.
