Nope, just an analog DECT base in the main bldg and a handset in the
outbuilding, if the DECT signal makes it. Cordless phones are dirt cheap in
stores.

You mean a DECT SIP phone?

If you convert to IP, are you still going to use copper between buildings?
Or fiber? I think it would be easier to protect POTS than Ethernet against
lightning.

Any chance you can get the customer to ditch pots entirely, no ATA, and have
them buy some sip headphones? Yealink sip-t22p are around $40 on eBay.

A lot less hassle than trying to do analog:digital:analog with any degree of
reliability.

We have several cases where a customer has a phone in an out building
plus the house. When they were with verizon they just had a copper
line between the house and building.

When we first started installing the phones, we would just hook our
ATA to the house wiring and everything worked great. Until the summer
rolled around and we started losing our ATA's due to lightning
    issues.

We are now only connecting building using fiber. We still want to
extend the phone line to the out building using the fiber. Is there
an inexpensive way to take POTS to IP back to POTS?
