This is all my fault. I've been focusing on getting the actual matter of
the spec right, guided by Mozilla's implementation feedback.

Custom elements are part of the bigger umbrella of Web Components. There's
a nice document that explains how everything fits in to the Web
Components--and here's the section on custom elements:
