Per an off-list discussion, one needs to click "输入法" or the arrow next to it and then you can select 拼音 first. After that, an IME UI appears - although it seems unstable - I get it sometimes, but not every time for whatever reason. The technology is quite impressive. This page disables non-ASCII input sources in Firefox, and I wouldn't call it a good idea. I could search for Russian words (almost) fine in Safari, but not in Firefox. One problem with Russian was that I couldn't type letters that are located on the same keys as punctuation on U.S. layout, due to the page handling them from keydown to produce CJK punctuation.
