Hi Mitko,

I would like to suggest that the best way to conclude this thread is to volunteer more details and instructions. We are getting there (and I am documenting complete steps as they are verified! :) ), but we seem to be progressing only millimeters at a time. :)

Please see below:

Hi Michael,

I meant to say that instructions for editing ODS-Framework applies only
to it, therefore only it have to be copied.

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks for clarifying this.

The ODS applications like Bookmark, Briefcase etc. except Blog must have
filesystem VAD packages, so if you install let say
ods_bookmark_filesystem.vad, you can edit the Bookmark pages in [web
root]/vad/vsp/[app directory].

The only VAD packages I have are from the standard open source distribution (not CVS) located at:

[root]\share\virtuoso\vad

In that directory, there are only three xxx_filesystem.vad:

bpel_filesystem.vad
conductor_filesystem.vad
tutorial_filesystem.vad

There is no ods_bookmark_filesystem.vad.

*However*, there are quite a few similar to these:

ods_bookmark_dav.vad
ods_briefcase_dav.vad
etc.

that correspond to the various ODS apps.

Questions:

1. Where do I find or download the various ods_xxx_filesystem.vad files?

2. *Or*, are the files named something else?

3. Once I have identified these files and they are installed on my system, do I copy them to the [web root]/vad/vsp/[app directory]?

4. *Or*, do I have to follow some steps to: a) create the VADs? b) extract the VADs? c) or other specific steps?

I thank you for answering these questions in advance. Let me assure you, you can not provide too many details! :)

Thanks, Mike

Best Regards,
Mitko

Hi Mitko,

I don't understand.

Are you saying that if I put the source files for ODS-Wiki,
ODS-Bookmark, ODS-Briefcase, etc., etc., under 'wa' and then invoke
init.sql that I will then be able to edit their source code under the
physical file system?

Or, when you say, "As for other applications they provide filesystem
based VAD packages ... ", where do I find and expose these filesystems?

My work and testing over the weekend suggest that the *only* way I can
edit files for ODS-Wiki, ODS-Bookmark, ODS-Briefcase, etc., etc. is to
perform a VAD package-by-package file system mapping similar to
init.sql, which is specific for the 'wa' (ODS-Framework) directory.
Further, I have *not* been able to find any similar mapping scripts
for these other VAD packages (that is, ODS-Wiki, ODS-Bookmark,
ODS-Briefcase, etc., etc.).

I thus do not understand the statement, "You need only
appsrc/ODS-Framework copied as wa under web root" when my specific
request is being able to edit non-ODS Framework files (that is,
ODS-Wiki, ODS-Bookmark, ODS-Briefcase, etc., etc.).

Thanks, Mike

Hi Michael,

You need only appsrc/ODS-Framework copied as wa under web root.
As for other applications they provide filesystem based VAD packages,
except ODS-Blog which is WebDAV only oriented because of templates. I
will check if ODS-Blog can be run for development from file system and
let you know.

Hi Mitko,

OK, I think this is the last important question for now:

In my CVS or \appsrc directories where ODS-Framework is located, there
are also many other sibling ODS-OtherApp directories.

1. Do these need to get copied over to the new 'wa' directory under
the vsp root?

2. If so, do they need to be renamed?

3. If not, how can I edit non-ODS Framework files?

This is the piece that continues to stump me (plus I guess the fact I
need to rename the local stuff to 'wa'!).

Please expand, and have a great weekend!

Thanks, Mike

Hi Michael,

I forgot to clarify that points mentioned in previous mail are on
basis of having a local source distribution or CVS checkout at very
least 'appsrc' and 'binsrc/oat' .
Please find the rest of responses bellow:

Hi Mitko,

Could you expand on the initial set up for this? I'm still confused
about how to set up the beginning file/directory structure.

Also, please see the other questions below.

I know I'm a newbie about this stuff, but I'm trying to get over the
hump and actually do some productive development! :)

NP. We appreciate the efforts to develop atop of ODS :-)
