Just for the record to the list:
Since we were not able to use the Gmail app due to this restriction,
we checked all other options
again and there really really does not seem to exist a good/viable
Android app that can connect to
an ActiveSync server. Bluemail is buggy, Nine was abandoned … and its
successor is expensive
and stores data in the vendor’s cloud.
So we finally gave up on ActiveSync for Android clients. Instead, we
now use
* Thunderbird (the new K9-mail) for e-mail via IMAP
Thunderbird is working on ActiveSync,, that is for the desktop client. I
don't know if they will release this for the mobile client as well. It
is probably worth to keep an eye on it.

To me it just looks like ActiveSync is a dead end, unfortunately.

BTW, I just encountered one restriction of the Gmail app:
You can’t add an ActiveSync (“Exchange”) based account to the Gmail
app, if its e-mail address is that
of your Google account used on the smartphone. It only works if it is
a different e-mail address than
your Google account.
Just for the record.

Thanks, yes, indeed.
I had in memory that Gmail had abandoned ActiveSync. So that is not
really the case.
They only stopped support for ActiveSync on their Gmail servers years ago.

Hi,
I just use the Gmail App that is pre-installed. It can use ActiveSync
if you use “Exchange” as the server type.

Hi,
does anyone have a recommendation for an Android Mail/Calendar app
that works via ActiveSync
against a SOGo server? I would like to avoid the effort of having to
configure IMAP/SMTP/CalDAV/CardDAV
all separately. ActiveSync is so convenient in comparison …
I already used Nine and BlueMail so far. Nine is not free but cheap
(IMO) but a pain to move to a new
device with the license key. BlueMail is OK but I recently
encountered a problem with calendar with
it and there is no support reachable there (I would even pay, but …).
