Just for the record to the list:

Since we were not able to use the Gmail app due to this restriction, we checked
all other options
again and there really really does not seem to exist a good/viable Android app
that can connect to
an ActiveSync server. Bluemail is buggy, Nine was abandoned ... and its
successor is expensive
and stores data in the vendor's cloud.

So we finally gave up on ActiveSync for Android clients. Instead, we now use

  * Thunderbird (the new K9-mail) for e-mail via IMAP
  * DAVx5 for synchronizing calendar and contacts into the native Android
Calendar/Contacts apps

To me it just looks like ActiveSync is a dead end, unfortunately.

BTW, I just encountered one restriction of the Gmail app:

You can't add an ActiveSync ("Exchange") based account to the Gmail app, if its
e-mail address is that
of your Google account used on the smartphone. It only works if it is a
different e-mail address than
your Google account.

Just for the record.

Thanks, yes, indeed.
I had in memory that Gmail had abandoned ActiveSync. So that is not really the
case.
They only stopped support for ActiveSync on their Gmail servers years ago.

Hi,

I just use the Gmail App that is pre-installed. It can use ActiveSync if you
use "Exchange" as the server type.

Betreff: [SOGo] recommendation for Android client app for ActiveSync?

Hi,

does anyone have a recommendation for an Android Mail/Calendar app that works
via ActiveSync
against a SOGo server? I would like to avoid the effort of having to configure
IMAP/SMTP/CalDAV/CardDAV
all separately. ActiveSync is so convenient in comparison ...

I already used Nine and BlueMail so far. Nine is not free but cheap (IMO) but a
pain to move to a new
device with the license key. BlueMail is OK but I recently encountered a
problem with calendar with
it and there is no support reachable there (I would even pay, but ...).
