I actually did that for one set of files.  But I DO need to get the USB functionality working, so reboot time.

    Then most likely something has gone wrong with the USB subsystem
    or USB
    hardware.  You'll almost certainly need to reboot to clear that.

    Are any other USB devices working?  If you dare, you can try
    unplugging
    and plugging them in to see if you get anything in the logs.
