I've run several XP VMs with no problem. What wasn't working?

I use Virtual Box to to my G4L images with grub4dos,
grub4dos-uefi, syslinux , and memtest images.

This was a question for Ron, not you.

Not sure what creates the /sys/modules/kvm and
/sys/modules/kvm_intel?

Note sure what creates these directories. Tried reinstall kernel, but
the /sys/modules/kvm was not recreated?

/sys is a special filesystem (sysfs) that's only in memory. (Like /proc.) Files are automatically created according to what kernel modules are loaded. So if you don't load the kvm module, that directory for it won't exist.
