Same here, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 GA on an Asus Eee PC 1005PE, Intel i915 Video.
Often the screen goes black after I see the Ubuntu logo and 5 red dots under it. Sometimes I have a small cursor blinking in the upper left corner. All I can do is Ctrl-Alt-Delete. If I'm lucky the system comes up on next boot, sometimes I have to use the Recovery Console, log in and then issue "startx". If I then reboot the system it comes up as expected.
