I investigated my setup a bit more for reference wrt touchpad: Afaik, the lenovo X1 carbon does not have a hardware key to disable the touchpad, I used the Xubuntu settings manager to disable the touchpad. Thus, I only had the touchpad disabled in software when experiencing the bug. As I cannot reproduce the bug currently (due to xorg-edgers ppa), I cannot experiment more on this right now. I removed the ppa, but apt is not offering a downgrade of the packages, so I don't know how to revert to the buggy state. Please let me know if I can provide more useful information
