Hi, I'm not that techie as you are. But try hard. I experienced the same crash when clicking on working area in Inkscape. After I read what you had reported about a possible connection between the touchpad and this bug, I disabled the touchpad-indicator that freezes my touchpad. Then I started Inkscape, and no crash of Xorg.
I also have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite C845).
