For me, it's definitely compiz/unity that causes this. I Installed xfce-
desktop and run it fo a few days, no freezes whatsoever. Then I enabled
window decoration, moving windows and the other usual compiz-effect, and
the problems reappered after some hours of use.

I disabled the compiz-effects again, and now it's been running smoothly
for more than a week without reboots. I'm going to run xfce-desktop
without compiz until I'm sure this is really solved.
