I downloaded and installed latest NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA-Linux- x86_64-260.19.36.run) from www.nvidia.com. An /etc/X11/xorg.conf file was created that references "nvidia drivcers", and I am able to boot into linux kernel 2.6.38-5. I wish I understood what is going on here.
