I updated to linux 2.6.38-5 via update Manager (2/23/2011) and the problem still persists. Trying various leads from internet, I exectued "startx" from recovery mode login prompt and received "FATAL: Module NVIDIA not found, (EE): NVIDIA: Failed to load the Nvidia kernel module." I have no idea where to find this module. I replaced "nvidia drivers' to "nv drivers" in /etc/x11/xorg.conf and rebooted successfully in linux 2.6.38-5. I do not beleive this is the correct solution, but at least I can boot into latest linux kernel. Where should the NVIDIA module be located?
