Since my last post I have not had an 'incident' at all in perhaps 20 hours running. No flashes, no black screen lockup. On my Mac mini Core Solo, at least, the replacement of kernel 2.6.24-19 by kernel 2.6.27-2 has apparently fixed the problem. I have not changed anything else on my system. I am still running xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.6. Will wait a bit before breaking it again...
