Hi everyone, I am the original reporter. While I do not own the original hardware, I have just got a Thinkpad X61 laptop with a GM965 chip, and it exhibits similar symptoms in hardy.
Unlike the way the bug description is written, I can reproduce this bug using all totem-gstreamer, gxine, gmplayer and vlc; whenever I use the (default) xv driver in any of such players. In usual cases, I can fix the problem by tuning contrast OR hue to 50% of default. Are there any instruction I can follow to help you figure out the bug?
