Okay - so the bug isn't so severe as it seems (for me anyway).. This is a VISUAL bug. The actual preference gets saved - but when you open the dialog, it always defaults to showing your home directory in the dialog, implying that is what it is set to. But in reality, it is set to whatever you set it to last.
